Here are some of the French command bases I have painted.

I particularly likes this figure - Murat and his aid Captain Manhes in the uniforms worn at Eylau in 1807:

Here are my British command bases. I need still need brigade commanders but these are all the main army/ corp or divisional commanders.

Apart from the British artillery command base, which is pictured in more detail on the Perfect Six blog, I was lucky enough to get a complete and painted Adler British generals pack on ebay. The figures are very nicely done and I have rarely found figures on sale at the standard I am looking for so it was a real find. I have based them up into individual command stands - named as the specific figure created by Adler or in other cases where a more generic figure I have chosen a name. Some close-ups below.

Just a general note when using these for wargaming, if I do not have a specific figure for the generals I need I will use the ones I have. I just like to have all the major figures to use when they appear in a battle but other than that I just need some command stands.

Adler figures - heads too big?

just a short post on some facts about Adler figures.

Perfect Six (see recommended links) recently posted some Baccus British infantry and included a size comparison with an Adler figure. As you can see there, Adler are not 'super 6mm' or 10mm but are very much inline with Baccus 6mm.

OK, so they are 6mm, but what about this ongoing criticism that they have big heads? As you can see from the Perfect six post the head does not look any more out of size to the figure than the Baccus figures. However, the very early Adler figures did suffer from this a bit - although I would still prefer them as it was never extreme. Since I have been buying Adler since they first started business I can show a comparison of the original and current figures. Here are Austrian line infantry with helmet - original 1980s Adler to the left and the current Adler version to the right:

So the heads were a bit out of proportion originally (if you go back nearly 30 years), but the figures you would buy now have good proportions and personally I don't think the criticism is at all justified these days and seems to be based on very out of date information.

WW2 Objective Markers

I use Flame of War rules for WW2 - more on that when I get round to some battle reports. For the rules I need to have objectives and have made some objective markers for this purpose.

The markers are burning and abandoned vehicles, with a resin 'explosion' marker I have painted up (after removing the base) and then put some 'smoke' around from a large piece of cotton wool sheet I lightly spayed black then teased out pieces to glue round the flames.

The Russian ones are made from Takara JS2 hulls:

The Western Allies are made from 2 Sherman M4A1 hulls and a truck. The Shermans are from the Takara game that had 8 unpainted vehicles - two each of Tiger 1s, Panzer IVs, T34/ 85s and Sherman M4s. For some reason the Shermans are smaller than the normal vehicle hence I used for a marker (you will be able to see the other vehicles in later posts). The truck is from New Toys Millennium:

The Germans are a Takara Panther hull and a Panzer IV hull from New Toys Millennium. I have yet to do the third German marker but planner on basing it on a Tiger 1:

Here are a few pictures of my Napoleon command base - a bit on the large side but I wanted to give a proper feel for the Imperial 'presence'!

Introduction to the Blog...

I will gradually be adding photos of my painted WW2 armies and my Napoleonic armies, and also the aim is to add some battle reports.

The scales and manufacturers I use:

• for WW2 I use a mixture of 10mm, 12mm and 1/144 models. I use a range of manufacturers in plastic, metal and resin. I will describe the manufacturers as I build up my blog entries and also try and contrast some of the differences in the size of models;

• for Napoleonics I use 6mm and these are all entirely Adler.

I will also cover terrain as I build up my entries. As I work out how to set the blog up properly I will try and add pages to provide links to the manufactures etc. as I go along.
